DetailsAfter numerous attacks over the cobbles and climbs of Flanders, the two dropped the peloton behind on the Molenberg climb. Cancellera's teammates Stuart O'Grady and Matti Breschel set the pace on crucial major climbs. With about 15km left in the grueling contest, Cancellera and Boonen were a full minute ahead of the pack as they neared the top of Kapelmurr ascent. Cancellera hit the gas and dropped Boonen like he was standing still in one of the most explosive performances of his career. CancelleraÕs attack rendered both a physical and psychological defeat for Boonen, who would have another chance at Roubaix in 7 days. "When I realized that I'd dropped Boonen, it was like having wings on my feet and I kept it going the whole way" said the ecstatic Swiss champ afterwards. Boonen finished second and fellow Belgian Philippe Gilbert was third in the 262km race from Brugge to Ninove. Notables Lance Armstrong and David Millar finished 27th and 32nd in the 29-person bunch behind Cancellera.
